SEQUEL TO THE 2009 L.A. BIKE SUMMIT

A CALL FOR WORKSHOPS - DUE FEB 13, 2010

In March 2009, more than 300 community residents, activists, researchers, and others gathered at L.A. Trade Tech for the 2009 L.A. Bike Summit. Building on that experience and broadening the agenda to include the parallel issues of biking, walking, and related streets issues, the Urban & Environmental Policy Institute at Occidental College is helping facilitate the L.A. STREET SUMMIT 2010: BIKING, WALKING, AND BEYOND. Along those lines, we are seeking individuals and organizations to provide educational and action-related workshops for this 2010 StreetSummit.

Goals for the Summit

• Build on the successful 2009 Los Angeles Bike Summit
• Integrate bicycle issues with a broader urban streets agenda including walkability, public space, land use, healthy communities, and other related livability and environmental issues
• Build a broader network of Los Angeles organizations, agencies and individuals working for active, healthy communities
  

Workshop Structure Each workshop will last approximately 1 hour in length and can include some or all of the following:

• Moderators to help facilitate discussions
• Speakers and/or panelists
• Hands on and practical learning techniques
• Open Forums/Interactive discussions

Workshop Topics: Potential workshop topics can include but are NOT limited to the following:

• Streets and Bikes
• Streets and Pedestrians
• Streets and public transportation
• Streets and recreation/ health
• Streets and food
• Streets and equity (access by all socio-economic groups, ages, physical abilities)
• Streets and politics/ planning
• Streets and economic development/commerce
