Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) in the Classroom, aka "Fresh From
the Farm" was a three-year pilot program in partnership with the LAUSD
Nutrition Network and Tierra Miguel
Foundation Farm that brough fresh
organic fruits and vegetables to hundreds of Los Angeles Unified School
District classrooms for nutrition education purposes.
The Farm to School Program at CFJ supports the development, expansion and evaluation of farm to school programs in California and nationwide. Since 1997, CFJ has been leading efforts at the local and national level to promote and evaluate farm to school programs. With staff in southern California, Illinois and Ohio, CFJ co-leads the National Farm to School Network with the Community Food Security Coalition.
CFJ assists school administrators, food service personnel, farmers, parents, teachers, and community members to establish farm to school by providing training and technical assistance, disseminating informational resources, promoting collaboration and networking. CFJ has worked with numerous school districts to help establish farm to school programs including: Santa Monica-Malibu, Compton, Ventura, Riverside, and Davis Joint Unified School Districts in California.
