An ABSTRACT is a brief summary of a paper, project or presentation. It generally explains what the project was about, what was done, and what the results were. Usually, the abstract would not contain data or references. Your teacher should give you specific directions about what she expects you to include, but as a general outline, include the following three items:

  • Question: What question were you trying to answer, and why is that an important question to ask (one sentence)
  • Methodology: How did you get information with which to answer the question (two sentences)
  • Results: What did you conclude was the answer to your question and why, or why were you not able to answer it (three sentences)
