Project Title: Flatfish
Abstract: Our question was: What is the difference in number of flatfish in December and March, and does the temperature have any effect? In December and March, we went off the California coast to count the flatfish, and found 24 flatfish in Marina Del Rey and 11 flatfish in San Pedro. The temperature was about the same.

Project Title: How Does Human Pollution Affect Plankton?
Abstract: Our project has to do with the investigation of how we, human beings, affect plankton by pollution. We started by researching what they eat and what affects them. Then we went on the Vantuna Research boat trip and took two samples of plankton. The first sample was taken out of the harbor and the second was taken in the harbor. to improve this project, we are going to find more information.

Project Title: What is the Most Common Species in the Otter Trawl?
Abstract: On the first boat named "Sea World" we found out that there were more hornyhead turbot and scopaena than any other species. On the second boat, "Vantuna" we also found the same species in the otter trawl. We also went online and fond the same answer to this question. We concluded that the hornyhead turbot and scopaena are the most common species in the otter trawl.

Project Title: Does Season Affect the Number of Sculpin in the Water?
Abstract: Our project is about sculpin. Our question is "does the season affect the number of sculpin in the water." We will probably research the mating seasons of the sculpin and the conditions that they like to live in. On the boat trips we took a count of the sculpin found in the otter trawl.

Project Title: Starfish Numbers in the Open Ocean and LA Harbor
| Abstract: Is
there a difference in the amount of starfish in the open ocean and LA
Harbor? If so, why? Our group has counted the amount of starfish for each otter trawl. There were more starfish in the open ocean than in the LA Harbor. We have also done the Secchi disc tests. We will be getting information on dredging, salinity, temperature, and possibly pollution in the two different areas. We will compare the differences and come to a conclusion on the reasons that more starfish are living in the open waters. |

Project Title: Fish Defense
Abstract: Fish have many defenses against the monsters of the deep sea. We are exploring these different types. From colors, spines, and inking, we are covering almost every imaginable aspect of their defense mechanisms.
