Project Title: Earthquakes
Abstract: Our team needed to answer three questions for this project: what job do earthquakes have; what system do earthquakes belong to; and what would happen if we didn't have them. These questions are important to ask because here in Southern California earthquakes can be a misunderstood aspect of nature. Our team got the information for this project from three different places: Internet, books, and BioWeb. In summary, earthquakes create land, including, mountains, hills, and rivers. Earthquakes are guided by the system of plate tectonics. If they didn't exist, we wouldn't have many of the islands, mountains, hills and rivers we have today.

Project Title: How do Aluminum and MTBE Affect Water Quality?
Abstract: The question we were trying to answer was in relation to water quality. We were able to get our information by browsing through water quality websites which were available through the BioWeb intranet and other search engines. In addition we got the opportunity to go on a field trip to research on a boat called the "Vantuna," through the TOPS program. In conclusion, it was determined that aluminum and MTBE do have some effect on our water quality here in Los Angeles.

Project Title: Arsenic and Methyl Environmental Effects
Abstract: Our goal was to figure out if arsenic and methyl affected: land, ocean or L.A. River, because it's important for us to know what's inside our water, the land we live on and the air we breath. The way we gathered the information was through a TOPS boat trip, the TOPS BioWeb program, and the Internet. We concluded that arsenic and methyl did affect the ocean, land and L.A. River. It was very useful being able to ask a real biologist our questions.
