It
is now possible for chemistry and physics teachers to receive college
credit from UCLA Extension for completing the TOPS summer or fall
seminar program. This may appeal to teachers whose school applies
credit hours to the salary scale. The seminar is worth 4 credits
and is considered a 400 level class. To obtain the credit an extra
$125 fee must be paid to UCLA Extension.
Teachers who participate in the
UCLA Extension program are graded based on one of the following:
-
A comprehensive lesson plan indicating
pre- and post-lab activities they will use in their classroom
pertaining to one of the lab exercises
-
Newly designed activity that supports
the subject matter of a laboratory experiment (pre-lab, post-lab,
discovery activity, Webquest)
-
A tutorial for the TOPS web page in the
form of a PowerPoint presentation that illuminates techniques used
in the lab
-
Self-directed project, to
be approved by the Lead Course Instructor prior to completion
