Apply for Summer 2011 Workshops

TOPS is constantly trying to recruit new teachers interested in enhancing and complementing their curriculum with relevant labs designed to meet California's Science Content Standards. For more information on these workshops and the three-step process of integrating TOPS labs into your curriculum follow the "Apply" link to the right to the program of your interest.  In summer 2011 we will be offering the TOPS biology and chemistry workshops.

Good News!

In 2008 the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) notified us they were funding Occidental College's fifth four-year award. In view of the fact that we are competing against the best schools in the country, this is a remarkable record. The TOPS outreach program is a key component of the College's HHMI proposal and we are very pleased the reviewers recognized the program's strengths and supported continued funding.

With the new award we will be offering workshops in summer 2011 and for the first time in a number of years have funding to pay teacher stipends and support van visits during Year 1 (Phase II) of the program. This is an opportunity to involve a member of your science faculty who has never been a part of TOPS.

Preference will be given to current TOPS schools that would like to involve a science teacher who has never been part of the TOPS program. With only five spots available you are encouraged to get your application in early. The priority application deadline for the 2011 workshops is Monday 28 March 2011. Those accepted to the program will be notified of acceptance on or before Monday 4 April 2011.

     *In past years TOPS teachers have received college credit from UCLA Extension for attending our workshops. If this option is offered in 2011 you will be notified by TOPS staff.   For more information, click here.*
