Preparing for Senior Comps
Projects in Design or Technical Theater
Freshman & Sophomore Years:
Complete THEA101, 110, 120, 125, & 210;
Complete both Production Labs (THEA121 and/or 122);
Complete Core requirements (Language, Science and Math, Distribution courses);
Take as many studio art, art history and dramatic literature classes as you can.
Recommended:
- Volunteer to work on student projects and with faculty and guest designers. You may elect to do the latter for course credit.
- Find summer internships in technical and design areas.
By the end of Junior Year: (arranged by discipline)
Scenic Design
At least one of THEA275, 375 and THEA304 with at least a “B+”;
Recommended:
- THEA250, 270, 301, 320, 340, any 345 (Prop Construction);
- Assistant Scenic Design at least once – can be done as an independent study (THEA197 or 397).
Lighting Design or Master Electrician
THEA301 with at least a “B+”;
Recommended:
- THEA270, 275, 304, 320, 345 (Stage Management), and 375;
- Assistant Lighting Design at least once. This can be done as an independent study (THEA197 or 397).
Costume Design or Construction
2 sections of THEA345 (Costume Construction and Stage Make-up) and THEA270 with at least a “B+”;
Recommended:
- THEA250 and 346;
- Assistant Costume Design at least once. This can be done as an independent study (THEA197 or 397).
Make-Up/Hair
2 sections of THEA345 (Costume Construction and Stage Make-up) and THEA270 with at least a “B+”;
Recommended:
- THEA250 and 346;
- Assistant Make-up Design at least once. This can be done as an independent study (THEA197 or 397).
Technical Direction
At least two of THEA275, 320, 340 or 375 with at least a “B+”;
Recommended
- THEA301 and 304;
- Assistant Technical Direction at least once. This can be done as an independent study (THEA197 or 397).
Stage Management
At least one THEA122 (ASM) and 345 (Stage Management) with at least a “B+”; at least one THEA275 or 301 with at least a “B+”;
Recommended:
- THEA320 and any 345;
- Stage Manage a Mainstage Production or another Faculty supervised project. This can be done as an independent study (THEA197 or 397).
