SUMMER
PROGRAMS
Instead of sitting around
during the summer, participating in summer enrichment activities can make your
summer fun while also working towards going to college.
A summer program does not need to be academic at all, because there are
many different types including various sports, sailing, camping, drama,
religious and even cooking camps. Of
course there are all sorts of academic programs including science, math,
engineering and several career oriented programs, such as the pre-med program at
Cal-State LA.
As with college, don’t let
financial constraints deter you from participating in summer programs.
Although many of the camps do have a program fee, you can get sponsored
from several external organizations. These
include the Shriners club, rotary clubs, the elks club and any other private
benefactors.
The links for many of the
sites with summer program opportunities are listed below:
Just
as important as exploring new opportunities is continuing your extracurricular
activities through the summer. While
fun, it would also be rewarding to continue playing a sport or continue your
club activities whether in a camp or simply on your own time. You can continue
working with your local Key Clubs or other community service organizations
during the summer as well. Whatever
the case, make sure that you keep busy during the summer because it is a fun way
of working toward college.
