CALIFORNIA A-G REQUIREMENTS

 The state of California as well as most colleges have basic academic requirements that students must complete in high school. These A-G requirements are 4 years of English, 4 years of Mathematics, 3 years of the Social Sciences, 3 years of laboratory science, 3 years of a foreign language, 2 years of Fine Arts and an optional 1 year of college preparatory electives.  The chart below provides a table to help you plan out your child’s high school curriculum:

Mathematics

Algebra I

 

 

 

 

Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry are the minimum requirement for most 4-year colleges; Algebra I may be offered in the 8th grade. Other advanced math courses will help in college and in many careers. For example, professions in nursing, engineering or computers require good math skills.
