Religious Leadership and Social Justice
Guest speakers and other programs will be offered to the Occidental community to invite the exploration of the relationship between religious belief and a calling to work for social justice, human rights, peace and reconciliation. Opportunities for students to get involved in related activities will invite further reflection on the role of faith and political activism.
What Matters to Me and Why
This program invites Occidental faculty to talk informally with students. President Ted Mitchell was the first speaker in this multi-year series and shared his poignant and personal story describing the values and beliefs he holds, how they have been shaped by persons and choices in his life, and why these values are important to him.

Intellectual Autobiography Dinners
A dinner series for small groups of faculty will invite one professor to speak each evening about his or her “intellectual autobiography.” These dinners are intended to bring faculty together to hear colleagues’ stories describing their journey to becoming a professor and to build a sense of community and connection among the faculty.
Book Group for Oxy Staff and Administrators
A monthly book group will select and read books (such as The Life of Pi by Yann Martel) that help stimulate discussion and exploration of the themes of vocation, calling, meaningful work, and religious beliefs and diversity.
