Funding Process
To apply for Values and Vocations Project support for research, conferences or
retreats you must be a currently enrolled Occidental
student. Students who have not been granted Values and
Vocations funds in the past will receive priority. You may
only receive funding for one Values and Vocations Project. Proposals must include the following:
- Describe what you are proposing, including
dates, locations, sponsoring organizations, if any.
- List your name, Oxy ID number, year of study, major,
campus or local mailing address, phone number(s).
- Write an essay that describes your spiritual journey while at Oxy. Include in this description your faith practice or perspective (if any), and questions which are currently salient for you in your spiritual growth. Your essay should identify areas in your own intellectual, spiritual and personal development that you would like to develop and explore. This should include values and beliefs that you hope to nurture and challenge. If you have vocational interests that will be furthered by pursuing this experience, describe what they are and how you would like this experience to help your discernment process.
- Submit an itemized budget of expenses.
Include any other funding sources you are applying to and
include amounts you are receiving from those other sources.
- If you are applying to do research, either on campus or off campus, include a letter of support and recommendation from your faculty mentor for this project. This step is not necessary for funding to attend a conference.
- Describe the final project you will produce
at the end of your funded experience. This can be a
reflection paper, presentation, exhibit, or publication. This
project should reflect your experience in terms of what you
learned, how the experience did or did not meet your
expectations, what you discovered about yourself, your
vocational journey and the process of discernment.
- Make an appointment for an interview with ORSL.
- Deadlines: Since each proposal and application is unique there are no set deadlines. However, we strongly recommend that you submit your proposal four to six weeks before your intended program (eight weeks prior to a conference).
