The Occidental-Caltech Symphony is a seventy-piece college-community
orchestra, comprised of students from Occidental College, the California
Institute of Technology, and players from their surrounding communities.
We present four concerts during the year. Recent repertoire has included
Mahler's First Symphony, Strauss' "Death and Transfiguration", most of
the Beethoven symphonies, Tchaikovsky's Fourth Symphony, and newer
works.
We feature an annual Student Concerto Competition, open to students at
Oxy and Caltech.
Rehearsals are held once weekly, on Tuesday evenings. We have a very
motivated group and work efficiently, to get maximum results from our
rehearsals. Sectional rehearsals are led by members of the Los Angeles
Philharmonic and the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra.
The orchestra is directed by Prof.
Allen Robert Gross.
