Each summer for more than 25 years, 24 to 30 high school students (completing their junior year) are selected to take part in our five-week program. Students are introduced to organisms (marine bacteria, plankton, algae, invertebrates, fish and mammals) and their relationship with Marine Ecology, Fisheries Biology, Aquaculture and Pollution Studies.

oc_boards.jpg (22596 bytes) Topics are covered through lectures, labs, field trips and cruises aboard oceanographic vessels. This intensive introductory college course includes reports, practicals, dissections, computer work and exams. The course runs from the end of June to the end of July and carries college credit (four semester units) from Occidental College.

Students live in a college dorm along with Oxy students who assist with the course work and arrange social activities. The program provides a strong introduction to marine biology, a taste of college life and a fun summer in the Los Angeles area.
