Directions to the boat The R/V Vantuna is at berth 260, Terminal island, San Pedro and can easily be reached from both the Harbor (110) and Long Beach (710) freeways. From the Harbor Freeway (110 South) From the Harbor Freeway take the Terminal Island exit. This exit will lead you over the Vincent Thomas Bridge (a suspension bridge). This is actually highway 47, so do not be confused if you see that you are on highway 47 east. You will then take the first exit after you have crossed the bridge. This is the Ferry Street exit. This exit comes up rather fast after you have crossed the bridge. The exit will loop around until you reach a stoplight. At this intersection you will take a left onto Ferry Street. Once you are on Ferry street you can follow the direction below "From Ferry St." From the Long Beach Freeway (710 South) From the Long Beach freeway take the Terminal Island exit. This exit will put you on Ocean Blvd. (47 West). Ocean Blvd becomes Seaside Ave after you have passed straight through a stoplight at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard, but you will still be on 47 west. Keep right as you pass the Vincent Thomas Bridge entry. You do not want to go over the Vincent Thomas Bridge back to San Pedro. After passing by the bridge entrance and still on Seaside Ave., you will come to a stoplight. At this stoplight you will turn left onto Ferry Street. Once you are on Ferry Street follow the directions below "From Ferry Street". From Ferry St. You will then pass through one stoplight and at the next stoplight, the intersection between Ferry street and Terminal Way, you will turn right. Follow this road, passing by the sewage treatment plant (4 large egg-shaped cement towers) and through one stoplight and at this stoplight you will cross over railroad tracks. After passing though the stoplight stay in the left two lanes, as the right two lanes are used for EVERGREEN transport trucks. You will pass through two stop signs, but keep going straight. You will then enter a gentle curve. The road now turns from Terminal Way to South Seaside. You are now near the Vantuna dock. Before you actually reach the dock, you will pass by a Mobile sign on your right and the Southern California Marine Institute (SCMI) on your left. SCMI is a large tan building with a small sign reading "Southern California Marine Institute". There will also be large round tanks with canopies in front of the building. Immediately after the building is the Vantuna dock. If you proceed further down the road you should see signs for General Petroleum. If you see these signs you have passed by the Vantuna dock. However, you may have to park either before or after the Vantuna dock, as there is no parking at the dock. You will need to park on the street; be watchful of restricted parking areas. To get to the dock, you will walk though a gated (which should be open) alleyway. SCMI will be on your left and a storage area and small work area will be on your right. After passing though this alley, the Vantuna will be to your right. The boat is white with maroon trim and "VANTUNA" is painted on the back (stern) of the boat. |
