Borrowing Occidental College Library Books

Students

It is the borrower's responsibility to return items on time and in the same condition as when checked out.

Loan Period: 21 days

Maximum:  unlimited

Renewals allowed:Renewals may be requested no sooner than 7 days before the due date.

May I place a hold?  Yes, if the item is checked out to another borrower. You may also request the title from LINK+.

Recall: All borrowed items are subject to recall after the initial loan period. Failure to return a recalled item will result in the loss of all library privileges until the recalled item is returned.

Penalties:

  • After 21 days overdue, a book is considered lost and a bill is generated. The bill will be a minimum of $70, which includes replacement costs and a non-refundable $10 billing fee. 

  • Damaged books will be billed to borrowers for the same replacement costs as a lost book.

  • Students with charges on their Library records in excess of $420 will temporarily lose borrowing privileges until items are renewed/returned or fines paid.

  • Unpaid library charges will be forwarded to Student Accounts for collection.

  • Billed items sent to Student Accounts for collection will be automatically credited if returned within 6 months. After 6 months, a credit may be requested if the item has not been replaced.
