The Library employs 55-60 student assistants each academic year. 

Most positions involve public service desks.  Others are behind the scenes.

To apply for any position in the library, you must complete an Occidental College Student Employment Application and the Library Supplemental Application.  Submit the application via email or hard copy to the appropriate library contact. 


 
Acquisitions Student Assistant
Do you love books?  Old books?  New books?  Assist in receiving incoming material to the library.
 
 
Circulation Student Assistant
Love customer service?  Help us do it better!
 
 

Database Maintenance Student Assistant

Are you detailed oriented?  Do you like to organize?  Help process incoming material ready for circulation and help maintain our library catalog.
 
 
Holdings Student Assistant
Working with the Systems Librarian, research and assist in updating journal holdings and links on library databases.
 
 
Music Library Student Assistant
Can you find middle C?  Assist in the daily operations of the Music Library.
 
 
Periodicals Student Assistant
Are you informed with the world?  Do you keep up with the latest news?  Assist with processing over 1000 journal, magazine and newspaper titles in our periodicals section.
 
 
Preservation Student Assistant
Do you like to repair things?  Assist the Preservation Assistant with mending and repairing damaged library material.
 
 
Reserve Student Assistant II
Serve in the Reserves!  Assist in gathering and maintaining material for course Reserves.
 
 
Resource Sharing Student Assistant
Are you on the go?  No time to sit?  Do you like looking for hidden treasure?   Assist with our extensive interlibrary loan service in retrieving and sending out material to various users.
 
 
Special Collections Student Assistant (Level 1)
Do you like rare books?  Historical documents and archives?  Assist the Special Collections Librarian with the care and use of these unique research materials.
 
 
Special Collections Student Assistant (Level 2)
Expand and develop your visual design, digital production, cataloging or research skills.  Work with the Special Collections Librarian on special projects in the care, use and promotion of Oxy's unique holdings.
