Database Maintenance Student Assistant

Library location: Information Resources--Library Services 
Positions available: 1-2
Pay rate: $8.50-$9.25
Work schedule: Monday-Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm
Hours per week: 5-10
 
 
Duties/Responsibilities:
Following USMARC Coding practices, complete coding changes in the OASys Catalog database, process monthly bindery shipments, prepare spine labels for materials (books, journals, videos, DVDs, scores, and other formats), apply labels, and verify work before releasing.  Apply security tape, property stamps, and encase as necessary.  Repair and/or bind library materials as necessary.  Search the OCLC Union Catalog database for matching MARC records (according to established criteria), export and encode according to USMARC and Innopac protocols.
 
Requirements/Preferences:
Required: Extensive use of personal computers, particularly in the transfer of data between software packages, whether in batches, or cut-and-paste technique.  Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, follow instructions exactly, remember details, and work accurately and independently.  Attention to detail is a must.  Reading knowledge of a language other than English (strong need for Chinese, Japanese, or Russian).
Preferred: Experience with building and maintaining a database (e.g. Paradox, ProCite, Access).  Experience in using libraries, their catalogs, and the Library of Congress classification system.
