Vonnegut Marathon Reading

Marathon Reading of Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse-Five
Wednesday May 2, Herrick Lawn
Beginning at 10:00 AM

The Occidental College Library is honoring the life and work of Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. by hosting a marathon reading of his 1969 novel,
Slaughterhouse-Five: or The Children's Crusade: A Duty-Dance with Death.

Everyone on campus is invited to share in the reading, which will take place Wednesday May 2, on the lawn between the library and Herrick Chapel. Reading will begin at 10:00 AM and continue until the book is finished (approximately 5 hours).

If you wish to read at a particular time, please contact Marsha Schnirring, Instructional Services Librarian. Indicate two 15-minute time slots during which you'll be available (e.g., 10:30 and 10:45). Or, you can simply show up and read during any open time block.

The New York Times characterized Vonnegut as the author "whose dark comic talent and urgent moral vision in novels like Slaughterhouse-Five, Cat’s Cradle and God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater caught the temper of his times and the imagination of a generation."

The Library also offers Celebrating Vonnegut, an exhibit of selected works of the late Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. including a bibliography of titles available in the Library's stacks and on-line resources (3rd Floor, New Wing, flat case).
