We in the library offer you several ways to suggest materials:

1. If you use the IE, Firefox, Chrome, or Safari browser, install a “bookmarklet” for “Library Request” to your toolbar (see instructions). Then, when you are on a website like Amazon, Link+, OxyWorldCat, etc, and have information about an individual book, CD, DVD, etc. on your screen, click the bookmarklet. It will open an email message containing the information the library needs to place an order; you just click “send.”

2. As you search OASys, you will find records for books that we have not yet bought and want your advice on. These records look like those for titles you can browse from here (we cannot yet put these records into Oxy WorldCat). Etc

3. If you use the citation management software Zotero, which currently only works with the Firefox browser, you can capture information about any title you think should be added to the collection and place it in this shared bibliography called Oxy Library Purchase Requests. You can get Zotero from http://www.zotero.org/; it’s easy to install, but we would be glad to assist you. If you wish to use this method, write to acquisitions@oxy.edu and we will register your email address so that you can contribute to the shared bibliography.

If one of these three ways of suggesting library purchases does not work for you, you can proceed as follows:

4. If you use Amazon to browse new books but don’t want to use the bookmarklet or Zotero, make a personal wishlist. Drop entries into it, and send the wishlist to the Library periodically at acquisitions@oxy.edu. Sorry, we’ve asked, but Amazon does not allow us to create a collaborative wishlist that Library staff can monitor.

5. Send to Library Acquisitions a marked up publisher’s catalog or ads or reviews in a journal and note your name.

6. Email acquisitions@oxy.edu with bibliographic information pasted into a message.
