Finding Music Scores and Recordings

Music Library

All Music Library materials are listed in OASys, the Library’s online catalog. There are several ways to search for music materials.  One of the best ways to search for music scores and sound recordings is the Advanced Keyword Search, which is listed under Other OASys Searches on the OASys homepage.

To limit your search to scores:
Under Material Type, select Music.
To limit your search to recordings:
Under Material Type, select Sound Recording.

**To further limit your search to compact discs:

Under Material Type, select Sound Recording  and  Enter 1982 in the Year: After box..
To limit your search to video recordings:
Under Material Type, select Video Recording.

To limit by title in an Author Search, or by author in a Title Search:

Click the Limit This Search button, choose Title or Author from the Words in the . . . box, and then enter the name in the space provided.

More OASys Searches:

Quick Keyword Search

Using the Quick Keyword Search in OASys, enter the name of the composer and/or piece you are looking for.

Bernstein and west  (Looking for West Side Story)

To further limit your search results, click on the Modify Search button.

Author Search

To use the Author Search in OASys, enter the name of the composer or performer you are looking for.  If there are zero results, try the Quick Keyword Search.

Title Search

The Title Search search works well for musical works with distinctive titles, like The Creation or Symphonie Fantastique.  For the more general Piano sonata no. 1 or Symphony no. 2, you may need to further limit your results by clicking of the Limit This Search button.

**Note:  Using the plural form of the title, e.g. quartets instead of quartet, or sonatas instead of sonata may significantly increase your results.
