Managing Your Email Mailbox

The quota for Oxyconnect email mailboxes is 25GB. Managing the size of your email mailbox is the best way to prevent the interruption of sending and/or receiving emails from your Oxy email account.

First, find out the current size of your mailbox by logging into Oxyconnect on the web at http://oxyconnect.oxy.edu and scrolling down to the bottom of the page. You'll see the percentage of the quota you are using in green or red text, depending on how close you are to the quota (this includes all items within your Oxyconnect account - email messages, calendar items, and Google docs). Please note: if your mailbox reaches 100% of the quota, you will no longer be able to send or receive any email until you delete some of your messages.

You can use a simple and quick approach such as archiving all email that is more than 2 years old. After your email has been archived, you will be able to search for and view these archived emails within Outlook or Entourage, but they will not be available through the Oxyconnect web client. Please note: to reduce your mailbox size, you must archive email by using Outlook or Entourage; the "Archive" button in the Oxyconnect web client takes emails out of your inbox but does not delete them from your account. Another method of reducing and maintaining the size of your mailbox is removing large attachments from your stored email messages and saving them to your computer.  To remove large attachments, you can search Outlook or Entourage for messages that contain large attachments, and either remove attachments from individual messages, or choose to save them all to a folder on your computer.
