Spain:
Salamanca/Institute for the
International Education of Students (IES)
Eligibility:
GPA of 3.0. Four semesters of college-level
Spanish or equivalent
for fall participants; five semesters
of college-level Spanish or
equivalent for spring participants.
Priority
is given to students who will have taken Spanish
during the semester
preceding their anticipated study in
Spain.
Dates: Fall: Early September – mid-December
Spring:
Early January – late May
Location: Salamanca. Approximately one hour west of
Madrid by train or bus, Salamanca offers the benefits of a
true university town with the advantages of being in close
proximity to Spain's capital.
Program structure:
This is a hybrid program. The IES
Study Center is located near the
Universidad de Salamanca.
The University of Salamanca was founded in 1218, and
shares a common academic history with the other great
Renaissance universities of Europe such as the Sorbonne,
Bologna, Oxford and Freiburg. All students are required to
take Spanish language, grammer and usage. IES offers area
studies, taught by University faculty.
Additionally, students
are required to enroll in at least one
class at the University.
There are limited
internships available in education or social
services for successful
applicants. IES also offers optional
excursions and cultural events, which are subsidized.

TOTAL Oxy Credits ~ 16 credits
Students should work carefully with the academic staff on-site
to construct an academic program totaling no fewer than sixteen
credits. A maximum of sixteen Oxy credits will be awarded for
the semester.
Housing:
Homestays with senoras and/or families, or in
residence halls with Spanish students. Note that
accommodation in residencias is limited.
