Spain: Madrid/Institute for the International
Education of Students (IES)

Eligibility: GPA of 3.0. Four semesters of college-level
Spanish or equivalent for fall participants; five semesters
of college-level Spanish or equivalent for spring participants.
Priority is given to students who will have taken Spanish
during the semester preceding their anticipated study
in Spain.

Dates: Fall: Early September – Mid-December
          Spring: Early January – Late May

Location: Madrid.

Program Structure:  This is a hybrid program. The IES
Study Center is on the campus of the Universidad
Complutense de Madrid. All students are required to take
Spanish language at the appropriate level. IES offers area
studies at the IES center, taught by University faculty.
Students are required to enroll in at least one class at the
University. IES offers a special curriculum for heritage
speakers. An extensive list of for-credit internships is
available.  IES also offers optional excursions and cultural
events.

Students should work carefully with the academic staff on-site
to construct an academic program totaling no fewer than sixteen
credits.  A maximum of sixteen Oxy credits will be awarded for
the semester.

Housing: Homestay with senoras and/or families. Some
housing in apartments with American and Spanish students
is available on a limited basis.
