Germany: Saarbrucken/University of Saarlandes



Eligibility: GPA of 2.7. German 201 plus either 202, 232
or 273 with a grade of B or better.

Dates: Spring: Early-March to Mid-July
           Full Year: Early-September to Mid-July.

Location: Saarbrucken, the capital city in the south-
western province of Saarland, located near the French and
Luxembourg borders.  The city has a population of 200,00.

Program Structure: This is a direct enrollment program
at Universitat des Saarlands. The program begins with a
month-long intensive German language program, either in
September or March.  Following this course, students enroll
in regular university courses alongside German Students. 

In addition to their studies, students will have the opportunity
to lead English Conversation classes through the German-
American Institute.  Interested students will hold evening
conversation classes based on a theme or topic of their
choice.  This is a wonderful opportunity and a great way to
meet other students.

Academic Program:
Intensive German language: Pre-session ~ 4 credits
Studienkolleg German language or university course ~ 3 credits
University course ~ 3 credits
University course ~ 3 credits
University course ~ 3 credits
TOTAL OXY CREDITS: 16

Students should work carefully with the academic staff
on-site to construct an academic program totaling no fewer
than sixteen credits.  A maximum of sixteen Oxy credits will
be awarded for the semester.


Housing: Students live in University residence halls with
German and international students.  Typically, students
reside in single-study bedrooms and share a bathroom. 
Students prepare their own meals in kitchens in their hall,
or take their meals at university dining halls.  Occidental
provides a meal stipend. 

Number of Students: 15,700 combined undergraduate
and graduate student population at Universitat de Saarlandes.
Approximately 1-2 Oxy students each year.
