Educational Exchange (CIEE)
Eligibility: GPA
of 2.75 plus two semesters of college-level
biology required.
A third biology course in ecology or
environmental science is recommended.
Some college-level
Spanish is recommended.
Dates: Fall:
Mid-August - Early December
Spring:
February - Mid-May.
Location: Monteverde.
Program Structure: This
is an island program. Small,
rigorous courses with a biological focus are
offered for CIEE
students only and incorporate extensive travel and research.
All students participate in the same curriculum. Students
should expect an
academically intense experience.
Academic Program:
Spanish Language ~ 2 credits
Tropical Diversity ~ 4 credits
Tropical Community Ecology ~ 4 credits
Independent Study in Biology/Ecology ~ 4 credits
Humans in the Tropics ~ 2 credits
TOTAL Oxy Credits 16
Students should work carefully with the
academic staff on-site
to construct an academic program totaling no fewer than sixteen
credits. A maximum of sixteen Oxy credits will be awarded for
the semester.
Housing: Biological
station (2 months), homestay (1 month),
academically integrated travel (1
month).
Number of Students: Enrollment
is limited to 25 students.
