Taiwan: Taipei/Council
on International
Educational Exchange (CIEE)
Eligibility: GPA of 2.7; two to eight semesters college level
Mandarin Chinese; one Chinese area studies course
recommended.
Dates: Fall: Late August – Early December
Spring: Early
February – Mid June
Location: Taipei.
Program Structure: This is an island program based at the
campus of National Chengchi University. All students take
an intensive Chinese
language course, a language practicum
and one language elective
taught by instructors from the
University’s Language Center. In
addition, students are
required to take part in a core seminar
designed and taught
by CIEE in English and Chinese. Several field
trips planned
throughout the semester.
Academic Program:
Chinese Language ~ 4 credits
Language elective ~ 4 credits
Chinese Language practicum ~ 4 credits
Topics on Modern Taiwanese Culture and Society ~ 4 credits
TOTAL OXY CREDITS: 16
Students should work carefully with
the academic staff on-site
to construct an academic program totaling no fewer than sixteen
credits. A maximum of sixteen Oxy credits will be awarded for
the semester.
Housing: Students live on campus with three Taiwanese
roommates.
Number of Students: National Chengchi University: 11,000;
CIEE: 50 to 100.
