England:
University of East Anglia
Eligibility: 3.0 GPA. Significant academic background
in the
topic of study, typically four to five courses, prior to the
start of the program abroad.
Dates: Fall: Mid-September – Mid-December
Spring: Early January – Mid June
Location: Norwich, England.
Program Structure: This is a direct enrollment exchange
program. The number of places available each year depends
on the
number of students Oxy receives from UEA. Students
must enroll in a
minimum of two classes in the department in
which they are admitted.
The other class may be taken in
any department which accepts
exchange students.
(Development Studies (DEV), Law (LAW) and Management
(MGT) do not accept exchange students). Normally,
students
take three classes to enroll in a minimum of 60
units, for which
they receive 16 Oxy units. There are no
special courses for study abroad students. The English
educational system is more accelerated than the US liberal
arts system and English students study in their major
exclusively. Plan to take 2nd and 3rd year courses. Note
that
background in your field of study is critical for success.
Academic Program: Students enroll in 60 units per
semester, to receive 16 Oxy credits. Typically, most
courses are 20 units each, but this may
vary.
Students should work carefully with the academic staff
on-site to construct an academic program totaling no fewer
than sixteen credits. A maximum of sixteen Oxy credits will
be awarded for the semester
Housing: Students live in single rooms in dormitories
on
or
near campus. Generally, meals are
self-catering and
students
utilize a common kitchen area.
Number of Students: 13,000 undergraduate and graduate
students, and approximately
2,000 international students.
Approximately two Oxy students
participate in this exchange
each semester.
