Ecuador: Quito-University Based Studies/
Pitzer College


Eligibility: GPA of 2.7. Four semesters of college-level
Spanish or equivalent. In addition to Spanish language courses, coursework in Latin
American area studies or development is required.

Dates: Fall: Early August – Late-December
          Spring: Early January – Late May

Location: Quito.

Program Structure: Students take a core course for
program participants only. Additionally, students enroll
in four classes at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito
(USFQ). Study trips, involvement in a local community
organization, homestay and lectures are all integrated
into the academic program.

Core Course: Poverty & Development in Ecuador ~ 4 credits
University class ~ 3 credits
University class ~ 3 credits
University class ~ 3 credits
University class ~ 3 credits
TOTAL OXY CREDITS: 16

Students should work carefully with the academic staff on-site
to construct an academic program totaling no fewer than sixteen
credits.  A maximum of sixteen Oxy credits will be awarded for
the semester.


Housing: Students live with families for the entire program
except during study trips. Requires a strong commitment to
using Spanish language skills, flexibility and maturity.

Number of Students: Up to four Occidental Students.
Whole group approximately 15.
