Four semesters of college-level
Spanish or equivalent, including one semester
immediately
preceding participation, required.

Program Structure: In this
a high intermediate-level
Spanish program, students enroll in a range of courses
taught exclusively for CIEE students by faculty from the
Pontificia Unversidad
Catolica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM),
and Courses for Foreigners with other
international
students at the PUCMM. Students who place into
Advanced Spanish
II or III have the option to enroll in
regular university courses at PUCMM.

CIEE Core Course: Contemporary Dominican Republic: Political
and Socioeconomic Processes ~ 3 credits
Three PUCMM courses for foreigners or PUCMM University
courses ~ 3 credits
TOTAL OXY CREDITS: 16
All students take a minimum of five courses. CIEE offers
one credit courses in Dominican Dance and Folklore,
the
arts and athletics. Student may opt to take these courses
in addition to
the above standard curriculum.
Students should work carefully with the
academic staff on-site
to construct an academic program totaling no fewer than sixteen
credits. A maximum of sixteen Oxy credits will be awarded for
the semester.
Note that the
program in Santiago implements a CIEE Community
Language Commitment
on-site. The Language Commitment
creates an atmosphere that encourages
more consistent use
of the host country language throughout the program
abroad.
It is CIEE's goal that adherence to the Language Commitment
will improve both the academic and co-curricular aspects of
the study abroad
experience for the student.
