Czech
Republic:
Prague/Council
on
International Educational Exchange (CIEE)
Eligibility: GPA of 2.75. Previous coursework in European
studies, particularly Central Europe, in any of the following
disciplines: history, sociology, economics, political science,
and literature is strongly recommended.
Dates: Fall: Late August – Mid-December
Spring: Late January – Mid-May
Location: Prague.
Program Structure: This is an island program. Students
choose from a series of specially designed courses, taught
in English by local faculty for CIEE students only. Classes
are held at
the CIEE Study Center which is affiliated with
Charles University.
Students are required to take one Czech
language course.
Students may also enroll in a limited
number of courses in
the international program offered by
FAMU, The Prague Film
and Television School of the Academy of the Performing
Arts. FAMU classes are taught in English for Czech and international students.
A series of cultural activities and field trips are organized
during the semester.
Academic Program: All students are required to take a Czech language
course (4.0 Oxy credits) plus four
area studies elective courses worth 3.0 Oxy credits each. Students may
select FAMU courses as electives, as well, and FAMU courses
receive either 3.0 credits or 6.0 credits. Students must take an
academic load totaling 16 credits.
Students should work carefully with the
academic staff
on-site to construct an academic program totaling no fewer
than sixteen credits. A maximum of sixteen Oxy credits will
be awarded for the semester
Housing: Homestay or university dormitories.
