Spanish or equivalent, including
one semester immediately
preceding participation, required.
Dates: Fall: Mid-July to Mid-December
Spring:
Mid-February to Mid-July

direct enrollment program.
The

with formal Spanish
language study throughout the semester. For the rest of
the semester, students take regular classes at Universidad
de Chile, Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile and/or the
Universidad de Santiago
alongside Chilean students. Students
may enroll in one of CIEE’s electives
taught in Spanish by
Chilean faculty for students on the program: Chilean
Realities
and Historical Memory and Human Rights in 20th Century
Chile.
Academic Program: Students are required to take
Contem-
porary Chile (2 credits). In addition, students should work
closely with
the CIEE on-site director to plan an academic
program totaling 16 credits.
Courses at Chilean universities
carry varying amounts of credit. Typically,
students take four
to five courses, in addition to the Contemporary Chile
course.
Students are not permitted to take CIEE center courses on a
CR/NC
basis, however, student may take direct enrollment
university courses on a
CR/NC basis.
Students should work carefully with the
academic staff on-site
to construct an academic program totaling no fewer than sixteen
credits. A maximum of sixteen Oxy credits will be awarded for
the semester.
Note that the program in Santiago implements a CIEE Community
Language Commitment
on-site. The Language Commitment
creates an atmosphere that encourages
more consistent use
of the host country language throughout the program

It is CIEE's goal that adherence to the Language Commitment
