Eligibility: 3.2 GPA. Significant academic background in the
topic of study, typically three to four courses, prior to the
start
of the program abroad.
Dates: Spring semester only: Early January – Mid June
Location: Bristol, England.
Program Structure: This is a direct enrollment exchange
program. The number of places available each year depends
on the
number of students Occidental receives from Bristol.
Students may
enroll across departments. Classes (“units”)
are worth from 10 to 40
credit points each. Normally,
students take a combination of classes
that total a minimum
of 60 units,for which they receive 16 Oxy
units. The English
educational system is more accelerated than the
US liberal
arts system and English students study in their major
exclusively. Normally, students should plan to take 2nd and
3rd year
courses. Note that background in your field of study
is critical for
success. Second year Psychology lab classes
are not available. A
single semester in Law, Economics,
Science and Engineering require special consideration.
Academic Program: Students enroll in 60 credits points
per semester, to receive 16 Oxy credits. Typically, courses
are 20 units each, but this may vary.
Students should work carefully with the academic staff
on-site to construct an academic program totaling no fewer
than sixteen credits. A maximum of sixteen Oxy credits will
be awarded for the semester
Housing: Students live in single rooms in dormitories
on or
near campus. Generally, meals are
self-catering and students
utilize a common kitchen area.
Number of Students: 13,000 students. Approximately two
Oxy students participate in this exchange each year.
