South Africa: Cape Town/Council on
International Educational Exchange (CIEE)


Eligibility: GPA of 3.0. Previous coursework in African
Studies is recommended.

Dates: Fall: Early July - Late November
         
Spring: Early February - Mid-June

Location: Cape Town.

Program Structure: This is a direct enrollment program.
CIEE participants are taught alongside University of Cape
Town (UCT) undergraduates. All students are required to
enroll in at least one course with African content. Cultural
activities, field trips and a community service program are
available.

Academic Program: 
400 level courses earn 6 Oxy credits  
300 level courses earn 6 Oxy credits
200 level courses earn 4 Oxy credits
100 level courses earn 3 Oxy credits
Typically, students take three to four courses. 
Total 16 Oxy credits.

Students should work carefully with the academic staff
on-site to construct an academic program totaling no fewer
than sixteen credits.  A maximum of sixteen Oxy credits will
be awarded for the semester

Housing:  Apartment style UCT residence halls with South
African students or CIEE off-campus houses with other CIEE
students. Meals are self-catering and a meal allowance is
provided by Occidental College.

Number of Students: There are 75 CIEE students.
University of Cape Town: 17,000 students.
