Tanzania: Arusha-Wildlife Ecology and
Conservation/School for International Training


Eligibility: 2.7 GPA. Previous college-level coursework
and/or other significant preparation in environmental
studies, ecology, biology or related fields.

Dates: Fall: early-September

Location: Arusha, in northeastern Tanzania. Students
visit a rural Maasai village and participate in excursions
to such places as the Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro
Crater, and Tarangire National Park.

Program Structure: This is an island program. Courses
are taught for program participants only by host-country
professors and specialists. The program includes a significant
independent study project.

Academic Program:
Intensive Swahili ~ 4 credits
Wildlife Ecology and Conservation Seminar ~ 4 credits
Environmental Field Study Seminar ~ 4 credits
Independent Study Project ~ 4 credits
TOTAL OXY CREDITS: 16

Students should work carefully with the academic staff
on-site to construct an academic program totaling no fewer
than sixteen credits.  A maximum of sixteen Oxy credits will
be awarded for the semester


Housing: Students live with a host family in a rural area
outside of Arusha for three weeks and for one week in a
Maasai village. Other accommodations include hostels,
private homes or small hotels.

Number of Students: Up to four Occidental students.
Whole group approximately fifteen students.
