For more than a century, Occidental College has provided men and women with a total educational experience in the liberal arts and sciences. As a private college, Occidental has always relied on the generosity of its alumni, parents, friends, trustees, and foundations and corporations to sustain its commitment to excellence.

As is true elsewhere, the actual cost of an Occidental education exceeds the income derived from tuition, room and board charges. Gifts both large and small play a critical role in supporting the fundamental operations of the College, including:

• financial aid and student scholarships
• faculty recruitment and retention
• library resources and acquisitions
• computer upgrades and information technology
• facilities maintenance, renovation, and construction
• academic and administrative expenses
• student life outside the classroom

Last year, gifts totaling $12.1 million made it possible for the College to expand its award-winning student-faculty research program, to renovate its historic Quad, to earn national recognition as the fourth most-wired college in the country, and to attract the most accomplished freshman class in recent memory.
