Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, the Assistant Dean of Students directs education and services related to community rights and responsibilities and support for students of concern and those with learning differences.  The Assistant Dean supervises the directors of the Career Development Center, Emmons Health Center, Disabled Student Services and the Assistant Director of Student Services.  This position is responsible for the planning and coordination of Division-wide assessment activities.  In the absence of the Dean of Students, this position will share duties with the other Assistant Deans in being the administrator in charge for the Division of Student Affairs.  Must have 5-8 years experience and a Master’s degree in college student personnel administration, educational administration, college student affairs or related field (PhD/EdD preferred).  Qualified candidates must possess the demonstrated ability to successfully manage personnel and have the ability to manage an organization within an allotted budget.  Formal training or direct experience in the process of mediation is required.  Must have experience in program design, implementation and monitoring.  Must be committed and support the shared Occidental values of diversity, respect for others, trust, integrity and hard work.  For a more detailed description of the Assistant Dean of Students position, log onto: http://departments.oxy.edu/hr/asst deanofstudents.html

 

MAJOR GIFT OFFICER and DIRECTOR

Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Institutional Advancement and External Relations and the Associate Vice President of Major Gifts, the Major Gifts Officer/Director of the President’s Council will be responsible for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting individuals that will lead to gifts in the $100,000 - $5,000,000 range.  Maintains an active schedule of contacts, activities, and solicitations; continually identifies new prospective donors and volunteers; facilitates relationships between potential and current donors and volunteers with the College’s administration, faculty, deans, staff and trustees; provides staff support for institutional leaders, faculty, and high–level volunteers when they meet with potential and current donors; provides stewardship and involvement for Occidental’s generous supporters and high-level volunteers.  Will form a network of high net worth, high profile alumni, producing a minimum of 100-125 prospects per year to facilitate the upcoming comprehensive campaign.  Provides regular internal and external narrative reports on fundraising activity.  Requires demonstrated effectiveness in prospect identification, relationship building, and solicitation; experience mentoring and working with volunteers, volunteer leaders, college officials, faculty and staff in fundraising with individuals; and front-line experience with solicitations of large gifts.  Will also staff the President’s Council, assisting in the development and implementation of this new affinity group for the College.  Additional requirements include: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and closely related professional experience in the major gifts field.  Ability to manage complex issues creatively and effectively; ability to make independent decisions.  Ability to participate in the ongoing development of the Major Gifts program.  Ability to write and speak clearly and effectively.

 

 

PROJECTS MANAGER and SPECIAL ASSISTANT

TO THE SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT FOR INSTITUTIONAL ADVANCEMENT AND EXTERNAL RELATIONS     #10-181

The Projects Manager/SA provides strategic and administrative support to the Senior Vice President for Institutional Advancement & External Relations, as well as to the Capital Campaign Staff Planning Team.  In addition s/he will support the Director of the President’s Council.  S/he will be responsible for managing special projects and special events initiated in the Institutional Advancement division.  Duties include, but are not limited to:  managing multiple fundraising projects (templates) that will constitute the foci of the upcoming comprehensive campaign, developing and managing effective office systems to ensure efficient and timely decision making, facilitating the flow of information to and from the Senior Vice President and replying to correspondence as appropriate, and providing proactive support to the Senior Vice President.  The position requires a combined minimum of seven years of executive assistance and hands on project management experience in a fast-paced, high profile setting, ideally in private higher education or in a philanthropic foundation.  A baccalaureate degree is required.  A highly developed decision-making ability, a strategic approach to problem solving and exceptional administrative skills are essential qualifications.  For a more detailed description of the Projects Manager and Special Assistant to the Senior Vice President for Institutional Advancement and External Relations, log onto: http://departments.oxy.edu/hr/projectsmanager.html.
