  STAFF POSITIONS

 
FARM TO PRESCHOOL PROGRAM COORDINATOR, #12-075

The  Farm to Preschool Coordinator will report to the Program Manager and other Farm to Preschool program staff to implement the expansion of the Farm to Preschool program by collaborating with participating preschools and childhood obesity stakeholders; conducting educational workshops on nutrition, healthy food advocacy and program orientation; aiding with a comprehensive evaluation strategy; and promoting the program through conferences and other venues.  The Coordinator will be responsible for conducting teacher trainings throughout California, conducting parent workshops in the L.A. area, cultivating a partnership and active program with a pilot family child care site and aiding in the facilitation of collaborative meetings and initiatives.  This position entails both hands-on and administrative opportunities.  Works with the Program Manager and additional program staff to conduct teacher trainings and other technical assistance in California and the Southwest. Conducts parent workshops on nutrition and healthy school food advocacy. Works directly with a family child care site to tailor the program’s curriculum and implements the program. Oversees a county-based initiative with other UEPI staff. Administers child and adult surveys and conduct periodic site visits.   Conducts data entry for collected surveys and other evaluation tools.  Supervises a student intern.  Supports other Farm to Preschool activities such as, but not limited to: conference presentations, facilitating stakeholder meetings and aiding in upkeep of Farm to Preschool national website and related materials. Performs other necessary tasks which contributes to the overall UEPI mission and activities.   Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in community food systems, public health, community organizing or Early Childhood Education preferred.  Excellent written and oral communication skills.  Must have own transportation, be willing/able to travel occasionally throughout the week, work some evenings and weekends as needed and be based in the Los Angeles area.  Experience with preschools/early childhood education is preferred.  Proficiency in Spanish is required.  Detail-oriented and well organized. Self motivated, hard working and dependable.

The Neighborhood Partnership Program (NPP) is looking for highly motivated people to serve as Mentor Coordinators for the GEAR UP 4 LA programs located at Vigil Middle Schools and the Robert F. Kennedy Community Schools.  GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) 4 LA is a federally funded program that works with youth in the Los Angeles Unified School District, Local District 4. Working specifically with the Belmont and Kennedy Zones of Choice, we aim to significantly increase student success in high school and persistence in college. The program also seeks to increase college and career awareness for students and parents. It provides knowledge of the admission process and the college experience. As a partner to GEAR UP 4 LA, Occidental College provides support for the Mentoring program. The goal is to improve college readiness and to give students positive role models. We welcome all qualified applicants to submit their resumes.  Under the supervision of the GEAR UP 4 LA Site Coordinator, the Mentor Coordinator helps coordinate the day-to-day operations of the GEAR UP 4 LA mentor program at the cohort schools. Responsibilities at assigned school include,  Implement and coordinate middle school and high school outreach program.  Develop and administer
assessments for skills inventory/learning strengths.  Develop mentor/mentee lessons for the middle and high school students.   Maintain regular communication with cohort teachers for mentoring related events, including scheduling.  Assist GEAR UP office when needed by providing support for students and/or parents, including non-mentors with GEAR UP related needs.   Assist NPP’s Director with the Mentor Camp schedules and procedures.  Develop and Train mentors at program sponsored Mentor Camps in summer and winter.  Maintain records of participation and the results of that participation. We welcome all qualified applicants to submit their resumes.  Though the position is targeted to graduate school students with an interest in K - 12 education and educational outreach programs, we will considers any applicant with an interest in helping students succeed academically. Under the supervision of the Director of Neighborhood Partnership Program, the Program Assistant helps coordinates the day-to-day operations of the MOTM tutoring program. This position will assist NPP director to implement the tutoring program at assigned high school.  Supervise tutoring program at assigned school. Supervise Occidental student coordinator. Assist in coordinating support for each site’s training schedules and procedures.   Coordinate all payroll and transportation for the tutors.    Maintain records of participation and the results of that participation.   Other duties as assigned.  Requires a Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent combination of experience and education.  Must have superb organizational and administrative skills.  Requires strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).  Must have a driver’s license, car & insurance.  Bilingual in Spanish is a plus. This position is Grant Funded and will cease once funding expires.  Schedule: Monday-Friday 20 hours a week depending on schedule.  Starting Rate: $14.50-$15.00/hour.

Casual, on-call positions available to provide banquet assistance for campus catering events.
  Will assist with banquet set-up, serve food and drinks, and clear tables.  Will clean up after event and return banquet items to inventory. Will provide various  banquet support services as requested.   Food Service Assistants will assist with basic kitchen duties, food set-up, and clean up. Requires excellent customer service skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.  Banquet experience or related food service background required.
Salary Rate: $10.88-$12.00/hour.

  

CLEANING SERVICES temps/on call #12-001

Facilities Management
Casuals/On-call positions available to provide assistance when employees are in need of extra help. Under the direction of the Cleaning Services Supervisor, will provide a broad range of cleaning services necessary to maintain the College facilities in a clean and orderly condition. Maintains floors, vacuums, and mops.  Gathers and disposes of rubbish and recycle products.  Replaces light bulbs in light fixtures.  Moves and cleans furniture, fixtures, and equipment.  Dusts walls, desks, light fixtures, blinds, cabinets, telephones, and other accessories. Maintains restrooms and showers.  Requires prolonged standing, walking, reaching overhead, forward and lateral stooping, bending at the waist and knees, climbing stairs, and twisting motions. Safe us of step ladder. Lock and secures assigned area.  Must have ability to receive and deliver communications in oral and written English, and have ability to read and understand chemical labels on cleaning products.

GENERAL KITCHEN STAFF, 12-027 MP

Casual, on-call positions available in campus Marketplace or Tiger Cooler dining facilities featuring display station cooking.  Stations include Bakery, Pasta, Wood Fired Pizza, Wok, Grill, Deli, and Fresh Juice. Will be responsible for food prep, cooking, and station cleanliness.  Knowledge of cooking procedures, food handling, kitchen sanitation guidelines, and use of kitchen tools required.  Must have ability to work with speed and efficiency in high volume food service environment. Prior cooking experience and/or culinary education required.  Salary Rate: $11.60/hour.

 

 DISHROOM ASSISTANTS

Dishroom Assistants will wash dishes, pots, and a variety of kitchen items and will handle basic kitchen cleaning duties to maintain the cleanliness of the food service facilities. Requires excellent customer service skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Previous food service experience required.
Salary Rate: $10.88/hour.

  

CAMPUS SAFETY OFFICER

Campus Safety Department

Casual, on-call position provides safety and security-related services to the College community to provide a safe living, learning, and working atmosphere for students and employees.  Provides a presence at College sponsored events on and off campus.  Renders emergency first aid and CPR as appropriate and stabilizes injured persons prior to arrival of paramedics.  Performs other duties as assigned.  Requires valid CA Guard Card, PR-24 permit, first aid and CPR certification, and California drivers license with clear record.  Minimum 2 years security/campus safety experience required. Vocational training and/or satisfactory completion of POST 832 and 832.2 classes preferred. Requires ability to lift 100 pounds or more, walk/stand without restrictions, stoop and bend, climb ladders to over 8 feet high, and use both hands and arms with full range of movement.  May not have a hearing loss of greater than 40 decibels. May not have vision loss greater than 20/40 (may be corrected with prescription glasses or contact lenses).  Salary Rate: $12.00/hour.

 

GROUNDS MAINTENANCE,  #12-006

 Facilities Management

Casual, on-call positions available in the Grounds reporting to the Landscape Supervisor, the Grounds Maintenance temp casuals performs routine, basic ground maintenance tasks within the sport fields, grounds, and landscaping. Uses a variety of grounds maintenance hand tools (rakes, shovel, hoes, clippers) and power tools (hedge trimmers, blowers, weed whackers, and lawn mowers). Grounds maintenance duties include digging, raking, mowing, trimming, edging, watering, blowing, sweeping, and irrigation head replacement. Moves sod, soil, and mulch, and plants color, hedges, and trees.  Prunes hedges and trees, installs sod. Repairs fences. Cleans drains. Performs routine operator maintenance on equipment, vehicles, and tools. Assists in moves and set-ups for College events. Tracks labor, materials, and supplies. Requires working knowledge of basic grounds maintenance methods and related equipment. Minimum one year related experience. Knowledge of safety procedures related to hazardous materials. Ability to work outside in all types of weather conditions, ability to repeatedly bend and lift heavy objects, climb stairs and ladders.  Valid California driver’s license a Must.  Customer service, team player and able to follow instructions. Salary Rate:  $9.50hr.
