The new Center for Digital Learning and Research (CDLR) at Occidental College seeks an experienced Instructional Technologist who will help us to realize our digital scholarship vision by planning for and  providing 21st century academic technology support. Reporting to the CDLR Director, our ideal candidate will implement programs and services for faculty and students that stimulate the creative and innovative use of assorted technologies (multimedia, web 2.0, e-publishing, LMS, etc.) across the full spectrum of instruction, learning, content creation, research and co-curricular student life. Essential functions include:
 
1.    Responsible for the planning, design, delivery, and support of academic technology services (multimedia, web 2.0, e-publishing, LMS, etc.) which enhance teaching, learning, and research in an era of digital scholarship, within an ever-expanding networked environment.
 
2.    Works collaboratively with faculty, IT staff and librarians to identify and facilitate the use of digital technologies and to coordinate digital scholarship efforts across the campus.
 
3.    Coordinates, manages and tracks academic technology projects, develops and supports digital scholarship initiatives, manages resources.
 
4.    Responsible for a full range of services: short one-on-one consultations, more extensive project support in the creation of courseware and learning objects, use of instructional tools and media, hiring, training and supervision of student workers..
 
5.    Monitors current trends in digital scholarship practices and pedagogy, as well as in instructional design and technology; advocates for the acquisition and use of new technologies that support digital scholarship, and connects faculty, IT staff and librarians with new ideas and approaches.
 
6.    Manages and supports the campus LMS platform and website, ensuring sustained, consistent and strong LMS support services for faculty.
 
7.     In conjunction with CDLR activities, organizes symposiums, workshops and other academic and digital technology programs for the campus and regional community.
 
8.    Seeks to understand how faculty and students exploit academic technology and regularly assesses satisfaction with same.
 
 
Job Qualifications:
 
A Master’s Degree, preferably in Instructional Technology or Design is required.  Additional requirements include knowledge of learning theory, pedagogical practices, learning resources and instructional technology tools and practices; demonstrated experience integrating technology in higher education with teaching, learning, or research environments; sustained enthusiasm for discovering, understanding and evangelizing technologies appropriate for learning and teaching; at least three years of progressively responsible experience with learning technologies (or equivalent knowledge and experience) alongside classroom teaching and/or training experience; three or more years experience working with managing staff or students and technology resources; demonstrated experience with executing technology or multimedia projects; web development and graphic design fluency; experience supporting an LMS, including training faculty and staff; demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, to lead as well as follow; a supportive leadership style that inspires creativity, learning, and quality work; excellent oral and written communication skills; and excellent organizational and customer service skills.  Previous experience in a liberal arts college environment as a student, faculty, or staff is preferred.
