C u r r e n t S e a r c h e s Islamic World
The History Department at Occidental College invites applications for a regular tenure-track assistant professorship in the History of the Islamic World starting in fall of 2009. Specialization and historical period are open. The successful candidate would join a strong department of History with global interests and colleagues in Islamic Studies in the departments of Religious Studies and Diplomacy and World Affairs. The new appointee will be expected to teach five courses a year. Applicants should submit a letter of interest that demonstrates a commitment to academic excellence in a diverse liberal arts environment and includes a statement of teaching philosophy, areas of teaching interest, and plans for research; a curriculum vitae; samples of scholarly work; evaluations of undergraduate teaching; and three letters of recommendation to Ms. Nancy Grubb, Search Committee Coordinator, History Department, Occidental College, 1600 Campus Road, Los Angeles, CA 90041. All materials are due by December 1, 2008. We will contact finalists in mid-December to schedule interviews at the AHA meeting in New York in January 2009.
