Emmons provides the following medical services:

  • Outpatient diagnosis and treatment of minor illnesses and injuries
  • Clinical laboratory services
  • Health education 
  • Specialty referrals
  • Women's healthcare: gynecological services, pregnancy tests, birth control, information and counseling
  • Confidential HIV testing
  • Prescription and non-prescription medications

The nurse practitioner staff assists students in maintaining good health so that they may successfully participate in the academic programs of the college. All new students are required to have a Health and Physical Form completed and on file before beginning class work on campus. Referral to community health facilities is made for major illnesses or accidents beyond the scope of the student health center. Emmons provides the following counseling services:

  • Short term individual, couple or family counseling
  • Five visits per school year at no charge ($30.00 fee for each visit after 5 sessions)
  • Depression and eating disorder screening programs
  • Psychiatric referral
  • Referrals to community services

The Counseling Center at Occidental offers various mental health services to students to help them cope with personal and family issues, and achieve academic success while meeting their educational goals at College.  Each year approximately 20% of the student population utilize our services.  Licensed, professional staff provide treatment for anxiety, relationship issues, depression, alcohol and drug concerns, life changing events, family issues, and food and body concerns.  Find out more about Emmons' Counseling Services in the FAQ section.
