Department of
Economics: Alum Newsu

Jeff and Elaine Chapman moved in Summer, 1999 to the
Phoenix, AZ area. Jeff is now the Director of the School of Public
Affairs at ASU and having a wonderful time fighting the PoliSci
Department. His research area is still state and local public finance,
although he is trying to puzzle out the Arizona system, having given up on
California. On a personal note, his prostate cancer surgery seems to have
been very successful. (2000) Would that all economies had
enough economic activity for "economics" to be topical. Bad press and military
actions aside, Afghanistan is seeing tremendous growth in many areas. Everything
from central government revenues to agricultural exports are growing at rapid
rates. Of course the baseline numbers were very low to begin with, but let's not
take the silver linings from the clouds. What Jim
Dunlap enjoys most are the infrastructure projects, given their
direct link to "happy past lives" working in both the USAF and in Yanbu, Saudi
Arabia. But the grandchildren Sirens' song is calling. In a decision making no
bottom-line economic sense, the Dunlaps may be returning to the USA sooner
rather than later. (2007)
