"Talking About Teaching" Events/Lunches
Intended for all faculty, these
are normally held twice each semester on a Tuesday or
Thursday during the lunch hour, with topics varying. The
next "Talking About Teaching" event will be on March 4,
2008, from 11:30-1:00. The topic will be "Concerns
and Strategies in dealing with First-Year Students."
It will be held in the Green Family Dining Room.
Past topics have included:
"Issues of Diversity in the Classroom"
(facilitated by Professor Cecilia Conrad, Professor of
Economics at Pomona College and currently Interim Dean
at Scripps College)
"The Judicious Use of the Digital Environment,"
(facilitated by Saul Traiger)
"How We Do or Don't Account for Our Own Political
Beliefs in Our Teaching
(facilitated by Regina Freer)
"Teaching with Clickers"
(facilitated by Dan Snowden-Ifft)
"Maximizing Student Learning in Small Groups"
(facilitated by Robby Moore)
among many, many others.
We try to make sure that these events are very
interactive, with lots of teaching ideas being shared by
all participants. Lunch is free. Attendance has varied
depending on the topic, but has averaged about 20-25
faculty per event, with some events attracting as many
as 45 faculty participants.
