First Year Faculty Learning Community (FYFLC)
New Faculty also meet for one hour
approximately every other week during the fall semester
and about every three weeks during the spring semester
to discuss various issues based largely on the
participants' preferences. The FYFLC often goes to
dinner after the meetings. In past years, the meeting
topics have included the following:
1) Mechanisms for obtaining mid-semester feedback from
students about the teaching in a course
2) Effective writing assignments and prompts
3)Active learning techniques
4) Discussion leading skills
5) Teaching with technology
Time is also devoted to how to
interpret and use the end of semester course/teaching
evaluations, and to the review process, including ideas
on how best to document one's work in writing annual
reports, pre-tenure review, etc. The group also meets
with representative Advisory Council members once during
the year. The FYFLC is co-facilitated by Robby Moore and
Mickey McDonald. |
