Occidental College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Cognitive Science Program.  We seek someone whose research interests lie within Computational Cognitive Science broadly construed, whose work deals with computational approaches to one or more areas of cognition. A strong commitment to teaching and research at a liberal arts institution is essential. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in cognitive science or a related field by the start date of August 2009. The successful applicant will contribute to expanding our curriculum, will have opportunities to teach classes both within and outside of the Cognitive Science Program, and will contribute to developing a newly allocated teaching and research laboratory for the program.

Occidental is a highly selective and diverse college of liberal arts and sciences located in the Eagle Rock section of Los Angeles. Founded in 1887, it is one of the oldest liberal arts colleges on the West Coast. The Cognitive Science Program was begun in 1985, making it one of the country’s oldest in this field at a liberal arts college. Occidental’s interdisciplinary and multicultural focus encourages a hands-on approach to learning and includes one of the country’s best undergraduate research programs. Its 1,850 students from 45 states and 24 countries have compiled an impressive record of winning national awards.
