WELCOME TO THE CHEMICAL SCIENCES!!!
The discipline of Chemistry addresses critical challenges in society.
Today, these challenges include developing new energy sources, understanding
the chemistry of living systems and biologically important molecules,
solving local and global environmental problems, utilizing and processing
vast amounts of genetic information, synthesizing novel compounds in drug
design and for new materials, and understanding matter on the nanometer
scale. Our students will be prepared to spend their careers working on
these very issues in academic research, applied or industrial research and
engineering, medicine and the health professions, education and outreach, as
well as in law and government. To develop student talent in order to make a
difference in these areas, the Chemistry Department at Occidental College
provides students with a superb, comprehensive education of the principles
of chemistry, including a rich laboratory experience within the curriculum
and in close collaboration with faculty mentors on original scientific
questions.
PLACEMENT EXAM IS NOW AVAILABLE
The Chemistry Placement exam is now available to all new incoming first year students.
Step 1
Prior to taking the online placement exam you must have activated your Oxy Computer (Oxynet) Account. If you haven't already, please go to http://my.oxy.edu with your assigned username and PIN then change your PIN to your Oxynet password. If you have already changed your PIN to your Oxynet password, go to Step 2.
Step 2
Go to
https://moodle.oxy.edu/course/view.php?id=9487 and log in with your Oxynet username and password
Step 3
When prompted "You are about to enroll yourself as a member of this course. Are you sure you wish to do this?" Select Yes.
Step 4
When you are ready, take the test. Please follow all instructions and remember that you must take the test in one uninterrupted session. If you have problems logging into Moodle, please contact the ITS Helpdesk at helpdesk@oxy.edu or at 323-259-2880.
After taking the placement exam, you may contact the Advising Center to get results if you like. There will be a delay of approximately four days to get the placement score to the Advising Center. The Advising Center phone number is 323-259-1341. You can also make an appointment to talk to an advisor at http://www.appointmentquest.com/provider/2080137033 if you would like to do so.
