Learn about Other Methods of Job Searching

Connecting with people, commonly known as networking, is extremely important in any job search. Through talking to a number of people, you may identify individuals whom you can approach to discuss possible job opportunities. It is important to identify organizations to approach when searching for a job. It is most desirable to meet organization representatives in person; however, sending out resumes and cover letters is another possible option. To improve your chances of success, we suggest identifying an individual in the organization to whom you can send your resume and cover letter.

Classifieds and Internet Job Sites are also a useful element of the job search process, however, your chances of job hunting success are greatly improved if you use more than one method of searching.

There are a variety of employer directories in the Career Development Center that may be used to find places of employment. There are directories for different cities and states as well as different career areas. Directories can be used much like a phone book, in which you may identify potential organizations to approach for job opportunities.

You may also use our web resource links on Career Resource Library page, which are listed by industry, as well as books and other reference materials targeting the job search.

There are a variety of other resources available on the Internet from other organizations, which you can use to improve your job hunting success. You can use Strategies for Job Search found in the Career Guides to Assist in the Job Search.
