Match Occidental College Majors to Occupations

Most college majors do not relate to one specific occupation. Many majors have a great number of occupations that are possible to pursue. It is important for students to consider the different occupations that are available, and to research those occupations that are interesting to them. Some of the resources available to help students in this process are described below.

To identify specific job titles that relate to college majors, the Career Development Center has online “What Can I do with a Major as well as printed brochures in the Career Resource Library. These information brochures include sample job titles, work settings, skills developed by the major, clubs and organizations to get involved with on campus, and more.

There are also other ways to find this information. The Career Center Library has books on matching majors to jobs, such as:

  • What Can I Do With a Major In ...?

  • College Majors & Careers

  • The College Majors Handbook

To access these resources or to get assistance deciding which resources would work best for them, students are encouraged to come to the Career Development Center and speak to a Career Counselor.
