Choosing an Occupation

Looking at You

A critical part of learning how to make career decisions involves looking at oneself and answering the following questions:

1.  What kind of activities am I interested in?

2.  What sort of values do I have that might be an important part of exploring possible occupations?

3.  What kind of skills and abilities do I possess or need to develop?

The answers to these "I stated" questions are important ones because they provide useful information for making career decisions and solving problems throughout one's life. This self-knowledge helps us both expand and narrow the options that we are considering at any given point in life.

Self-assessment activities are available to you in the Career Development Center in each of the three areas above.  In consultations with a Career Counselor, you may complete any of these activities with respect to your individual needs.
