Alumni Sharing Knowledge (ASK) Network

The ASK Network offers many ways for Occidental students to connect with thousands of alumni who have agreed to help the Career Development Center by providing career and educational information.  The level of contact is negotiable. Through the Alumni Directory featured online, there are searchable features whereby students can look for alumni by geographic area, major, year of graduation, occupation, and company.

If You Would like to Search for ASK Members

·         Read and abide by the guidelines and policies of the User Agreement.

·         Read What is Networking before contacting alumni.

·         Enter the Alumni Directory.

Here are some suggestions for engaging these alumni:

·         Conduct an informational interview.  This valuable career exploration tool allows you to learn about career fields of interest, the organization you may wish to join, and the level of education and experience required to enter a field.  These are not job interviews, although often times the connections can lead to future employment opportunities.

·         Arrange a meeting to learn about graduate school issues and choices.

  • BEHIND THE SCENES, coordinated by the Student Alumni Relations Committee (SARC), brings student groups into the workplaces of alumni.  Contact Alissa Graunke, Assistant Director of Alumni Relations, or call (323) 344-4175.

·         Shadow an alumnus/a at his/her workplace for part of a day or longer, so you can learn the realities of a career choice.  In the spring, we have an organized program called Walk In My Shoes. We encourage students to shadow all year long.

·         Attend an Industry Panel or the “Career Speaker Series” where you will hear experts in their fields, and you will have the opportunity to talk to them informally.

·         Attend the annual “Social Business Dinner” held in November.
